#1: What is a Community? Task#1 : Students will utilize a graphic organizer of what a community involves. Standard: Students will be able to identify important components of a community. Process: 1. Watch the video “What is a Community?” 2. Next, the teacher will introduce students to the FQR reading strategy to help students read for a purpose. As a class read the first lesson “Looking at a Community” of chapter one in our Communities social studies textbook. The teacher will guide students into filling in the columns as they read the first lesson. 3. As the class continues to read, the students will record “F”acts that they learned as they read, “Q”uestions that they have as they read and “R” esponses they have. 4. As a class discuss the students findings in a short discussion. 5. After discussion have students turn their FQR page over and create a concept web on their own. When students are done they may turn these in for a grade. Criteria: · Students will record at least 5 important facts about what a community is from the reading and/or video. · Students will turn in a neat and organized concept map. Rubric: |
