#11: Attention Visitors!

 

             Task#11: Students will construct a welcome brochure for tourists

                         in Naperville.

 

Standard: Students will be able to:

· Identify important components of a community.

· Comprehend the relationships between geographical factors and communities.

· Recognize and name diverse landforms and bodies of water.

· Communicate effectively in written expression.

· Organize their information in a variety of ways.

 

Process:

 

1. To begin students will be given the rubric by the teacher and

     will have time to research and plan their brochure in the LMC

     where students can access the internet, books and maps.

2. Students will spend their time in the LMC for 45 minutes to

     an hour.

3. Next students will take their information and go into the

     computer lab where they will use Microsoft Publisher to create

     their brochure.

4. Students are familiar with this program, but the teacher will

     walk them through the process of setting up their columns.

5. Students will have 3 sessions of 45 minutes each to complete

     their brochure.

 

Criteria:

· Brochures should have:

· 3 columns of information

· One column for a place to visit in Naperville including a brief expository paragraph.

· One column of why people should visit Naperville in a persuasive paragraph.

· One column of where Naperville is located.

· Clip art should be used (2-4 pictures)

· Titles for each column

· Creative Ideas
