#2: “The Three Types of Communities Poster” Task #2: Students will design and label the three types of communities: rural, suburban and urban. Standard: Students will be able to: · compare and contrast how communities are similar and different from one another. · organize their information in a variety of ways. · communicate effectively in written expression. · make inferences from pictures and elaborate in a written expression. Process: 1. Students will analyze photos of the three types of communities in the U.S. Students will compare and contrast their characteristics along with identifying what makes their community unique. Next they will sort the photos according to similarities. 2. In groups students will see that the photos can be sorted into rural, suburb and urban communities. Students will be introduced to those terms by the teacher. 3. Students will read lesson 2 “Communities Across the U.S.” 4. After reading the students will brainstorm with a partner in a bulleted format the characteristics of each community. Students will share their findings with the class in a discussion. 5. Students will be introduced to the Communities Poster by reading the rubric and looking at models from previous students. Criteria: · Detailed illustrations that clearly depict each type of community. · Descriptive definition written in a complete sentence below each illustration. · Colorful illustrations completed in crayon. · Neat illustrations and writing · Creative Rubric: See attached |
