#7: Dynamic Dioramas

 

             Task#7: Students will build a diorama using various landforms

                       and bodies of water.

 

Standard: Students will be able to:

· Comprehend the relationships between geographical factors and communities.

· Recognize and name diverse landforms and bodies of water.

· Organize their information in a variety of ways.

· Apply map skills in a real world situation.

 

Process:

 

1. Students will read “Our Country’s Geography” from the Social

     Studies textbook. Students will discuss aloud different

     landforms: mountains, plains, plateaus, peninsula, island,  

     mesa, cliff, canyon, coast, valley and hills.

2. On a map in the social studies book students will identify where

     these landforms are located throughout the United States. Next

     students will brainstorm a list of landforms located in

     Naperville.

3. The teacher will introduce bodies of water: gulf, lake, canal,

     bay, harbor, river, and ocean.

4. On a handout students will write the definition of the landform

     or body of water down with a small picture to help them

     remember what it looks like.

5. Students will be introduced to their diorama project. The

     teacher will provide the students with a rubric and read it

     carefully with them.

 

Criteria:

· Dioramas must have :

· 2-3 bodies of water and labeled

· 3-5 landforms and labeled

· Realistic features

· Correct spelling

· Creativity

· Neatness
