#8: “A Community in Mexico” Task#8: Students will identify the similarities and differences between a community in Mexico and their own community through the use of a Venn Diagram. Standard: Students will be able to: · Organize their information in a variety of ways. · Read with a purpose. · Compare and contrast how communities are similar and different from one another. Process: 1. Students will watch a video entitled “How Communities Grow and Change.” A discussion will follow with why a community grows and what causes it to change. 2. Individually students will read “A Community in Mexico” from their social studies books. 3. After reading students will create a Venn Diagram on paper comparing and contrasting the community in Mexico to the community of Naperville. 4. Students will turn this in during class for a comprehension check. Criteria: · Venn Diagram should include: · At least 3 similarities · At least 5 differences · Accurate facts from the textbook Rubric: |
