#9: “Mesa Verde” Task#9: Students will reflect in their journals as if they were a member of the community Anasazi at Mesa Verde a Native American Culture. Standard: Students will be able to: · Organize their information in a variety of ways. · Communicate effectively in written expression. · Compare and contrast how communities are similar and different from one another. Process: 1. Students will read “Mesa Verde Long Ago” from the Social Studies textbook. 2. As the class is reading the teacher will ask comprehensive questions to check for understanding such as: · How do the children help with the farming? · What are some of the jobs of the Anasazi women? · What are some of the jobs of the men? · What landforms are in their community? How do they affect their living? · How would you describe the Anasazi community? · What ceremony did the Dancers hold in the fields? 3. After the class is finished reading the teacher will have the students open up their journals and begin writing to the prompt of: Suppose you lived at Mesa Verde long ago. Write a journal entry about a day in your life. Describe what you eat, what you wear, and what you do during the day.” Students will have about 20-25 minutes to complete their journal. Criteria: · Journal entries should include: · Complete sentences in a paragraph format · Accurate description of food, clothing and daytime activities · Supportive examples from textbook · Neat writing |
